Located in the heart of the Alps at around 2,007 metres (6,583 ft), Courchevel Altiport – ICAO code LFLJ is one of the most iconic mountain airfields in the world and the highest in Europe. Opened in 1961, it allows aircraft and helicopters to land directly in Courchevel 1850, right next to the resort's ski slopes, hotels and chalets.
The altiport has a runway 04/22 of around 536 metres, famous for its exceptional profile: its gradient reaches 18.66% on its steepest section. The site also has dedicated helicopter facilities, including a FATO (Final Approach and Take-Off Area) and specific flight paths adapted to Courchevel's mountain environment.
In winter, the altiport is equipped with an AFIS service and a rescue and firefighting service. Its runway is cleared of snow throughout the season, keeping the resort accessible despite its altitude and winter conditions. The altiport handles several thousand movements each winter, around 70% of which are helicopter flights.
